About Harding's Jewellery Repairs & Sales

Harding’s Jewellery Repairs & Sales was launched by a Four Oaks family aiming to bring the Jewellery Quarter to the heart of Mere Green.

Chris Harding, 35, has been in the trade for twenty years and comes from a long line of jewellers. His father Nick was a gem-setter and his great grandfather Fred was a metal finisher on the Titanic. His sister still also works in the jewellery quarter.

It was working in the Jewellery Quarter in recent years that Chris spotted the gap in the market. He noticed that customers from across Sutton Coldfield were sending jewellery to outlets in the area, who were then out-sourcing this work to Chris.

To create a faster and more convenient service for customers, Chris and his wife Rachel opened Harding’s Jewellery repairs and Sales in Grange Lane in Four Oaks this month.

Chris said: “We wanted to offer a service for all local residents as it’s not easy to get to the Jewellery Quarter and also the shops in Sutton are very expensive and take a long time. Our market research found that for example something like a polish and rhodium cost between £40 and £50 and took around three weeks at a High Street shop in Sutton. By cutting out the middle man we can do this for £20 the same day.

“We want to offer Jewellery quarter prices and a really quick turnaround for people so they’re not without precious items for long.”

A full range of services are available including polishing and rhodium plating, jewellery repairs, valuations and ring sizing and diamond and stone checking service.

Rachel said: “Chris has grown up in the jewellery industry and he truly can fix anything! He is so talented. We’re thrilled to be able to open an independent family business in the area and looking forward to welcoming our new and existing customers through the door.”

Harding’s Jewellery Repairs and Sales is based at 14a Grange Lane in Four Oaks, above the post office. A full list of prices and services can be found at /www.facebook.com/HardingsJewelleryMereGreen/ or by ringing 0121 308 3399

History

Harding’s Jewellery Repairs & Sales can trace their metal finishing family experience back to the early 1900s.

Chris’ great great grandfather was a Brass finisher to the metal work on the titanic! He was called Fred Mitchell and he lived until he was 92 in Manchester. He was born in Yorkshire, working in Belfast on the titanic and later lived and died in Manchester!

He is pictured with his wife Catherine Mitchell. A true family man and we are very proud that metal finishing has been in our family for so long…
